I've always been a fan of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series, particularly the earlier novels (he runs out of ideas as the series progresses). 'The Cardinal of the Kremlin' is one of the best and keeps the reader gripped as well as providing enough technical and philosophical narrative to make it a more 'in depth' novel. Many plot lines all weave together well. I would recommend listening to/reading the earlier Ryan books too, but only 'The Hunt for Red October' has a direct bearing on 'The Cardinal of the Kremlin'.

The narration is good, slighly rushed in places, although at 25 hours this is a long listen anyway! Well worth it though. Recommended.

Great story, good narration

Too often this book gets caught up in the kink of descriptions of equipment and stereotypical characters that contribute very little to the plot. All dreadfully sluggish. This is compounded by the narration, which is monotonous in the extreme, and reminds me of an episode of the A-Team I once had on cassette (only that was made tolerable by constant bursts of action!) Cannot believe this got so many good reviews - have been harsh in the interests of balance!
