Did Wealthy Fremont Sabin divorce his wife before his untimely death? That's the multimillion-dollar question. And the right answer will mean a windfall for either the dead man's angry son or headstrong widow. Each has accused the other of destroying Sabin's will - and murdering Sabin. But with no document declaring to whom the affable eccentric intended to leave his fortune, Perry Mason faces a prickly puzzle.

Even more puzzling, however, is the talking parrot. Casanova was Fremont Sabin's beloved pet. But the bird found at the crime scene proves to be a foul-mouthed impostor. Suffice it to say that more than a few feathers will be ruffled as Mason sets out to clip a clever killer's wings.

Great plot that keeps the readers guessing while providing us with all the information. Several witty comments and philosophical considerations that are still quite valid in 2022. An old would-be nemesis, a really interesting new law enforcer, a cool coroner, likeable clients, a different kind of moment of last suspense...

The narration is excellent as usual, except Alexander Cendese still hates it when people get emotional and almost ruined a moving moment with his "people who are upset stutter and sound silly" voice.
It is really odd because he was perfect when he read the lines of the stuttering bishop a few volumes ago, and he can also make silly character sound relatable. But he can make Perry himself sound bad if he is upset.

Perry has "never had a more satisfactory case"

ERG seemed to have coasted on this tale. I had figured out the murder quite early on.

Not as satisfying as previous PM novels.

Cendese has found a style and rythm to ESG's stories. A separate voice from the TV incarnation.

Parrot as victim?
