About this listen

They had not been forgiven. And they would never be forgotten....

On a hot summer’s morning, a young father is found murdered in a cornfield outside the quiet town of Colton, tied to a post, arms spread wide. Detective Robyn Carter is reminded of the crucifixion, and she knows she’s looking for a killer with a twisted sense of right and wrong.

The victim’s girlfriend is devastated, unable to fathom how she will tell her sick little boy. Still reeling from her own loss, Robyn vows she will find the killer - no matter what.

But then a local doctor - a popular woman with a young family of her own - is found dead outside her surgery. There are similarities between the first body and hers, and Robyn must take another look at the picture-postcard town, where no one has any enemies.

Can Robyn untangle the hidden web of secrets, lies, and smouldering grudges at the heart of this close-knit community before another life is lost?

A pause-resisting thriller that will keep you listening into the night. If you love Angela Marsons, James Patterson, or Tess Gerritsen, The Chosen Ones will have you hooked.

the story is gripping and kept me guessing most of the way. the downside which was fairly considerable was the accents performed by the narrator. when speaking normally she was easy to listen to but as soon as she performed an accent I am presuming to have been black country/ brummie or a little later I think Jamaican it really grated. at the beginning i did not think I would complete the book but the story had to be heard. would have been so much better with out the accents!!!

brilliant and gripping but the accents...........

Story good but voice is not right for this type of story. It's too wishy washy and the Midlands accents are all wrong. There are several different ones in the Midlands all completely different from East to West, North to South. None of them are plummy like this narrator's is! Better with a stronger, deeper voice. This spoiit for me as I'm an East Midlander and we don't speak like the Brummy's or Black country folk in this book. The narrator should stick to a plain, non regional accent as she can't possibly know or do them all!

Voice not right for this story

**3.5 Stars**

This is the last instalment of the DI Robyn Carter series, this starts off with a gruesome murder, not for the faint hearted. The murders are staged with a religious theme running through them and Robyn and her team are struggling to get a breakthrough.

This is a frustrating case as the culprit is a hiding in plain sight. They have an uncanny knack of being an accomplished liar.

How will Robyn and her team ever fit the pieces of this puzzle. The culprit runs rings around them all as they perform one gruesome murder after another.

The ending was a disappointment for me as it felt unfinished regarding a personal matter for Robyn.

There is a short story at the end of the kindle book called ‘Endgame’ which answers my questions somewhat but I wanted more.

*Disturbing*
