Summary

In The Christ-Myth Theory and Its Problems, Robert M. Price, one of America's leading authorities on the Bible, demonstrates that almost the entire "biography” of Jesus is a conscious reworking of earlier literature and shares the evidence that has led him and other scholars to conclude that Christ—a partial synonym for Jesus of Nazareth—is a mythical figure.

I've enjoyed Dr Price's books, essays and podcasts for years now, and was delighted to discover he has been recently releasing his many, many works as audiobooks. I've listened to this one twice through now and really appreciate how Dr Price argues the points for the Christ myth theory in a clear and scholarly fashion, but doesn't pretend it's a theory without evidence running against it. I love how he doesn't try to persuade you he has the definitive answer to the question, but brings all the evidence out into the light and then allows the reader to make of it what he/she will. If you're new to Dr Price's work, a great starting point is The Case Against The Case For Christ (also available as an audiobook) which will introduce you gently to the topic of biblical criticism, and will demonstrate Dr Price's immense grasp of his subject. Once you've found your footing, then this is an astonishing deep dive into the Christ myth theory.
