A novella by Nicola Upson. Really enjoyed this book which contains the origins of Cluedo combined with a wartime murder mystery based in a hotel. Anthony and Elva are due to spend Christmas hosting a murder mystery evening in a hotel, but find themselves investigating a real crime.

An enjoyable story

A little short so feel just a tad robbed of my credit 😂 but it’s a fantastic story!

Great story

Very well written and well framed, I find Nicola Upson’s writing brilliant but too dark for me and thought this book was going to be the exception but there is still that darkness and unsettling content usually absent from mysteries under the cosy umbrella. She is a very very good writer and this is a very gripping book, but perhaps read with a warning that this book contains content that some readers may find disturbing - aside from being a murder mystery!

Darker than a cosy mystery- it’s fresh and captivating

A clever plot, interesting characters and a very atmospheric wartime Christmas. Well written and engaging from beginning to end.

I was lucky enough to hear Nicola, the author, read a chapter from this book at March library when I went to meet the other author at the event, Mandy Morton. I am so glad I bought this book. It's full of unexpected twists and turns, loveable (and genuinely dislikeable) characters. it manages to feel cosy and safe despite being a whodunit. I'm looking forward to reading more of Nicola's books. I listed to this on audio book and it was nicely narrated in an engaging way. I will be relistening to this on my Xmas drive home.

lovely cosy crime thriller read by a fantastic narrator
