About this listen

A short story set in a Welsh village in 1950, as seen through the eyes of Jenny, a 10-year-old schoolgirl. A neighbour is taken ill in the middle of the night; the folk who live on Bevans Road turn out to find out what will happen to Charlie. Jenny, unable to sleep, joins her mother outside and listens to the conversations taking place around them.

This story is one of four short stories narrated by the 10-year-old Jenny and is set in the South Wales village of Llanduth.

What made the experience of listening to The Chrysanthemum Grower the most enjoyable?

It's a comic little tale of goings on in a welsh village as told by a naive 10 year old when a neighbour is taken ill. The neighbours on Bevans Road are a mixed bunch - some mean well, others don't - comes across beautifully on Audio.

What did you like best about this story?

Lovely and light - set in a welsh village where everyone knows everyone.

What about Emily Wilden’s performance did you like?

Emily gets into the welsh characters - bringing them and the Road setting to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did - and you can - listen to it in one setting as it's only 21 mins long.

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to the next short story audiobook from the welsh village as told by Jo Parry and recorded by Emily Wilden. I understand it may be out in December or January 2015
