Summary

Travis: I’m the head coach of the Seattle Ironbacks NFL football team, but first and foremost, I’m a dad to twin girls. After a painful divorce, I’ve decided to focus on my children and career. However, this season, the challenges on the field pale in comparison to those off it—especially when my nanny has a family emergency and has to leave unexpectedly.

Balancing the pressures of leading my team to the playoffs while managing my personal life is no easy feat. This year is make or break for me if I want to remain a head coach in the NFL, so I’ve put my love life on the back burner, dedicating all my energy to football and family.

But that all changes when I meet her…

Gabriella (Ella): As a child psychologist, I’ve dedicated my life to supporting the mental health of young people. My past trauma has cast a long shadow over me, shaping the way I navigate the world. I find solace in helping others—but the same pain that drives me toward my work has also caused me to steer clear of men and relationships.

Now that I’ve earned my PhD, I’m ready to build my new business in Seattle.

Then I meet him. Thoughts and feelings I’ve never allowed myself to experience hit me with the force of a wrecking ball—tearing down every wall I’ve ever erected around my mind, my heart, and straight to my soul.

Somehow (I blame my cousin Gary), I find myself stepping in to help Travis and his daughters when his nanny has a family emergency. Of course, this all happens after I’ve promised myself I would stay away from him!

But the thing is… what I was so sure could never happen, does. I never saw coming the drastic changes Travis would bring to my life.

The Coach by Alexandra Shaw. This is book one in the Seattle Ironbacks series, an interconnected world, but can be enjoyed as a standalone. And is a 4 ⭐️ read.

There’s something incredibly powerful about an MMC who sees the beauty in the FMC long before she’s able to see it in herself. And this book delivered that emotional journey in such a heartfelt and meaningful way that my heart honestly melted a little more with every chapter.

What stood out most for me was the way the MMC approached her insecurities with patience, kindness, and genuine understanding. He doesn’t try to “fix” her or rush her healing. Instead, he gives her the space, support, and reassurance she needs to slowly believe the things he already sees so clearly.

And the fact that he wanted body positivity not only for her, though also for his daughters? That completely stole my heart.

Those moments added such depth to his character and made the emotional core of the story feel even more genuine. It wasn’t only about romance, it was about self-worth, acceptance, and learning to stop seeing yourself through the harsh lens the world often forces onto women.

Duet narration by CJ Bloom & Aiden Snow was honestly the perfect pairing for this story. They both captured the emotional warmth, vulnerability, and chemistry so well that it made the listening experience even more immersive.

This book is Heartfelt, uplifting, and a beautiful reminder that the right person won’t only love you, they’ll help you learn how to love yourself too.

I was laughing out loud, often needing to remind myself to dial down the volume, as I was swept away by a whirlwind of emotions. I absolutely adore Ella; her sarcasm is delightfully sharp. Aidan Snow and C.J. Bloom both delivered performances that were downright spectacular. Also, I truly appreciate Alexandra Shaw's writing style; her witty banter and -sharp sarcasm are simply fantastic.
