Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Three men meet on a ship bound for Haiti, a world in the grip of the corrupt 'Papa Doc' and the Tontons Macoute, his sinister secret police. Brown the hotelier, Smith the innocent American and Jones the confidence man - these are the 'comedians' of Graham Greene's title. Hiding behind their actors' masks, they hesitate on the edge of life. And, to begin with, they are men afraid of love, afraid of pain, afraid of fear itself...

This is the first Graham Greene I’ve read. I’ll read many more. Fantastic and informative novel.

Has anything really changed in Haiti?
Other than the leaders have died. On one level this as a love story. It was read in a suitably melancholic voice. It is a great story touching on serious themes which may be deemed dated in our superficial influencer lead age
Difficult to switch off, highly recommend.

Wonderful book

The way each character was so beautifully drawn, with all their actions and words ringing true. I don’t know how I missed this book for so long. Now one of my top five with Travels With My Aunt in there too. The narration was excellent too

Brilliant writing and an excellent and interesting story.

I absolutely loved this narrator, I have not come across him on Audible before. The story is classic Graham Green; brilliantly written and bitter sweet throughout.
