Summary

Long before modern philosophy, psychology, and political theory existed, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle were asking the questions that shaped our civilization.

The Complete Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates Collection gathers the essential works of ancient Greece’s most influential thinkers into one volume, featuring Socrates’ final dialogues as recorded by Plato, Plato’s major works, and Aristotle’s writings on ethics, politics, metaphysics, psychology, and art.

To improve accessibility for modern listeners, these classic works have been carefully updated from their original translations, clarifying archaic language and enhancing flow while preserving their depth and precision.

Included in this collection:

  • Plato’s Works
  • Apology – Socrates’ immortal courtroom defense, delivered as he stands trial for corrupting the youth of Athens.
  • Crito – A debate on justice, law, and moral duty before execution.
  • Phaedo – Socrates’ final hours and reflections on death and the immortality of the soul.
  • Euthyphro – A challenge to conventional morality and piety.
  • Meno – A dialogue on virtue and whether it can be taught.
  • Symposium – An exploration of love, desire, and beauty.
  • The Republic – A masterwork on justice, the ideal state, education, and the nature of reality.
  • Aristotle’s Works
  • Nicomachean Ethics – A guide to virtue and human flourishing.
  • Politics – A study of government and political order.
  • On the Soul – A study of mind, perception, and consciousness.
  • Metaphysics – An inquiry into existence and causation.
  • Poetics – An analysis of storytelling and drama.

I’ve always wanted to know what the big deal was with these famous Greek thinkers, and this collection gave me all the answers I was looking for. I liked how it moved from the more poetic ideas of Plato to the very logical and scientific notes of Aristotle. The "Apology" was a real standout for me because of how much passion was in the words as Socrates defended his beliefs. It’s a very heavy-duty audiobook in terms of length, but the simple words made it feel very accessible to a regular person like me who just wants to learn something new and useful.

i have been thinking a lot about the questions that shaped our civilization lately. reading through the apology and seeing socrates stand trial for his life was quite an experience. the updated translations clarify the archaic language and really help the flow. it is a long listen but provides some much needed precision to my thoughts.
