About this listen

After fourteen years of wrongful imprisonment, merchant sailor Edmond Dantès escapes his grim island fortress. With the promises of youth erased and his betrothed now married to someone else, Dantès lives for one purpose: revenge. Thanks to a benevolent prison confidante who reveals the location of a hidden treasure, Dantès buys his way, unrecognized, into society. Adopting a new identity as the Count of Monte Cristo, he sets out to destroy the rivals who framed him for treason. But the count’s obsessive quest could have irrevocable consequences for the innocent - and for himself.

What unfolds is an epic tale of breathtaking intrigue and righteous retribution from Alexandre Dumas, the nineteenth-century master of high adventure.

I think the narrator did a a clever job of taking on the many faces and disguises of Edmund Dantes in this unabridged version of Dumas’ classic. If you’re use to a modern version of this story, you’ll need to get use to Dumas use of syntax as he weaves a gripping story of, greed, jealousy, envy, revenge, retribution, guilt, remorse, and more. Basically everything that makes the superb tale of the misfortune Dantes incarceration and eventual escape from the Chateau D’If, and how he gets his own back.

Clever narration of a classic

I have nothing to complain about regarding this title. The narration is performed incredibly. The lighthearted tone Guy Mott has mastered further heightens the bursts of riveting suspense that defines Dumas’ Masterpiece. The slight changes in pronounciation and dialects easily draws me in, bringing the book to life. I have listened to this several times and find Guy Motts voice soothing and flexible, i can listen at a faster speed without losing pronounciation and the audio quality leaves nothing to be desired.

An exciting adventure i frequently revisit!

This Amazon production is definitely underrated. I enjoyed it immensely both the story and the performance.

I absolutely love this book. I have read it previously but wanted it on audiobook to enjoy again and it didn't disappoint. It took a while to get used to the narrator as he pronounces every letter of every word which i thought would irritate me but it didnt. Also the language takes some getting used to but after a while i found myself enjoying the wording and the beauty of the writing. The story is brilliant, it goes on a bit when they are in Italy but I didnt mind because I didnt want the book to end . If you have watched the film (with Guy Pearce) it bears no likeness to the book and totally changes the moral of the story and of the man. This will be a book that I go back to again and again.

Its a classic for a reason

Would not recommend this version. I found the performance both hammy and odd. Making a dated book hard to engage with.

Poorly performed
