About this listen

A mysterious murder. Ancient intrigue. And a cold-blooded killer determined to evade capture - narrated by the acclaimed Simon Prebble and Mary Jane Wells.

London, 1898. A vibrant young heiress has gone missing, and it’s up to Sherlock and Lucy to find her. Meanwhile, threatening letters from Egyptian revolutionaries begin turning up at newspaper offices, captivating Sherlock’s interest and sparking public fear and outrage.

Then, the missing young woman is found dead in front of London’s most famous Egyptian monument. Are the dangerous radicals, maybe, making good on their threats? But when suspicion falls on the dead woman’s husband, the Baker Street team find themselves grappling for the truth.

As they dig deeper into the mystery, they uncover a dastardly and deadly plot that puts them all in danger. And when one of their own falls prey to an evil deception, they must act quickly to prevent disaster.

Can the Baker Street team catch the wily killer and save their imperiled friend? Or will all of their best efforts turn to ruin?

A fun and innovative take on a classic Sherlock who-done-it, with memorable new characters, thrilling twists and turns, and a touch of ancient intrigue. The Curse of Cleopatra’s Needle stays faithful to the spirit of the beloved original series, while showing the true value of family and friendship.

As usual both authors Anna Elliott & Charles Veley know what they are doing, know how to research, create a good mystery and beautifully put it onto paper.

Perfect narration by both Simon Prebble & Wendy Termont King.

My recommendation !

Oded Ostfeld.

Perfectly done for a short one.

This story opens with a body being found at the base of Cleopatra's Needle in London. Holmes is called in to assist the police wit their investigation and he, John Watson and Holmes' daughter Lucy James find themselves embroiled with Egyptian revolutionaries and the threat that they present.
This is a shortish story in the series, but it still manages to cram an awful lot in, which makes it really interesting to listen to.
There is the usual annoying inclusion of 'Americanisms' which do detract from my enjoyment a little, but the performances are very good, albeit that the cockney accents are sometimes overdone. Simon Prebble is up to his usual high standard and I find Mary Jane Wells to be more enjoyable to listen to than Wendy Tremont King as the alternative narrator. I am still unconvinced that two narrators are required, I am leaning towards preferring a single narrator.
But my preferences aside, this is an enjoyable story with solid performances.

Enjoyable Sherlock Holmes mystery

would have enjoyed it much more if the "hidden" message wasn't there. I have always enjoyed sherlock homes stories but I found it was let down

Needless racism aimed at the English as always.
