Faeries. Knights. Princes. True love. Think you know how the story goes? Think again... From the New York Times bestselling author of The Spiderwick Chronicles comes a dark, dangerous and utterly beautiful faerie tale, guaranteed to steal your heart.

Hazel lives with her brother, Ben, in the strange town of Fairfold where humans and fae exist side by side. The faeries' seemingly harmless magic attracts tourists, but Hazel knows how dangerous they can be, and she knows how to stop them. Or she did, once.

In the forest of Fairfold, lies a glass casket. Inside the casket lies a sleeping faerie prince that none can rouse. He's the most fascinating thing Hazel and Ben have ever seen and they dream of waking him.

But what happens when dreams come true? In the darkest part of the forest, you must be careful what you wish for...

Although short, compared to other Elfhame books, it was nothing short of top tier. I've read the Folk of the Air trilogy repeatedly and needed more. I felt like I was home, back in the wonderful world of the folk. This time, we're following some of the side characters from The Queen of Nothing. Nevertheless, I was gutted when it ended. Well done to the narrator as well, she really carried the story

The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black was everything I wanted and more. I absolutely loved the plot; full of twists, turns, and surprises that kept me hooked from start to finish. The characters were so likeable and vividly written that I felt completely invested in their journey.

Hazel and Jack’s slow-burn romance was incredible; tender, complicated, and perfectly paced; and I was so happy to see Ben find love too. Holly Black captures the stark, often cruel reality of the Fae world with such skill; it’s not a fairy tale for children but a haunting, beautiful horror tale for adults.

The narrator was fantastic. She brought every character to life, handling both male and female voices perfectly and adding even more depth to the story. It was one of those rare narrations that make the book even better.

I can’t recommend this story enough. If you enjoy dark, atmospheric fantasy with complex characters and a touch of danger, The Darkest Part of the Forest is a must-read; or must-listen!

A fantastic story of the Fae

I don’t know why I was so shocked at how good this book was. Yet another beautiful piece of writing from Holly. She truly is one of the best at writing extraordinary fairy tales that don’t merge into the sea of every other fantasy book nowadays. Perfect narrator for this book too. 5 star, chefs kiss 😘👌🏻.

Just perfect 👌🏻

It was a good story, but Sir Hazel a kind of Jude actually in love with Jake aka Cardan, an insignificant prince.

Good

It's an ok story, with decent characters that I vaguely cared about, and its easy to follow, The big reveal is somewhat signposted and felt a little underwhelming, and the ending seems to drag on well past when it should.

Kind of anti-climatic
