Colin, a newly divorced lecturer of critical theory, wants to spice up his life. He attempts to learn Russian, gives online dating a go, and even entertains the idea of becoming an alcoholic - but nothing sticks. its a bit difficult to review this short book without including plot spoilers. it concerns the efforts of a recently divorced University lecturer to connect with the world and find a new place in it.
as suggested in the title the work alludes to critical theory and horkheimer in particular. it sounds weighty and indigestible , but in the end it is quite the opposite. with a gentle and humorous it makes you stop and think. masterfully done!

I only bought this book to learn about the Frankfurt School. I have heard it referred to several times in discussions but had no idea what it was all about. It was well narrated and answered my questions. I would not listen to it again as the subject was not for me and was rather dry but I am glad to have listened to it as no knowledge is a waste of time.
