An innocent man, Andy Dubois, faces the death penalty for the murder of young girl. Korn has already fixed things to make sure he wins a fast conviction.

The one thing Korn didn't count on was Eddie Flynn.

Critic reviews

A great read! Top notch thrills and court room drama!
Addictive, unpredictable and timely (with a truly explosive conclusion). For me, Steve Cavanagh is the new John Grisham. Excellent.
Gripping, twisty and smart.
I couldn't put it down ... I envy people who haven't had the chance to read Steve Cavanagh's Eddie Flynn series. it's like a binge worthy box-set in book form.
With THE DEVILS ADVOCATE Steve Cavanagh resoundingly reaffirms what mystery fans worldwide already know. He is one of the best thriller writers working today. THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE bristles with dramatic courtroom tension, suspense, intrigue and more twists and turns than a moonlit country road. Not to be missed.
A blinder of a book. Classic Eddie. All the noir you've come to expect and a plot and a half! That guy just gets better and better.
This is high octane court drama & I loved every heart-racing, nail-biting page of it.
Hands down the best book I've read this year. Pacy, clever, steeped in historical accuracy. There's room for wit too. What. A. Ride.
Steve Cavanagh is a world-class talent. Make this your next read. The Devil's Advocate is another blistering case from Steve Cavanagh's outstanding Eddie Flynn series. Tense, timely and brimming with hard boiled justice, The Devil's Advocate is a thoroughly gripping thriller. Highly recommended.
Previous books in the Eddie Flynn series have won the Gold Dagger Award and The Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year Award, incredibly, however, The Devils Advocate might well be the best novel in the series so far. As usual Eddie is funny, resourceful and smart but in this one he meets his most villainous and intelligent opponent yet. Steve Cavanagh's take on the American system of criminal justice is both biting satire and exciting thriller a combo that makes Devils Advocate the beach read of the summer of 2021.
This is Cavanagh's best yet ... I'm obsessed with Eddie Flynn and this is a masterpiece.
The undisputed king of the courtroom drama.
Steve Cavanagh now has the same hotshot literary agent (Shane Salerno) as Don Winslow. Not bad for a boy from Belfast. His latest thriller may flirt with the far-fetched, but if you read the first eight pages you'll be hooked. The Devil's Advocate makes your palms sweat and your blood run cold; the terrific trial scenes out-Grisham John Grisham. Meanwhile, in the 21st century, in the land of the free, the death penalty remains a reality.
Cavanagh is a genius... page-turning stuff
A great book by a great author.

Excellent. I love these characters. Eddie has definitely developed throughout the series but I think they have all integrated well into the narrative. Adam Sims, excellent as ever. Miss them already!

The plot was sound and the characters solid.
Steve has written a plot based on some real facts and has spun a storyline around them that's totally conceivable.
I really enjoyed this book and the narration by Adam Sims is just superb, breathing life intothecharacters.
I am looking forward to another in this series, if Steve writes more.

Another great read/listen

I use my audible books to help me wind down at the end of the working day - most send mo off to the sleep I need. I have lost count of the nights I spent hitting the 30 minutes more button on this novel, and ended up listening for hours. Great writing, great narration too. But also, this felt more real, more feasible than a lot in the Eddie Flynn series. Thoroughly recommend it.

The best of Eddie Flynn yet. No sleep allowed!

Loved the is book.
Found it a bit slow at the beginning, but once the story was underway it was great.

Great book

Good to have a new instalment but not a subtle book.
With action moving to the Deep South, racism and small town politics are front and centre, leaving little room for the usual shenanigans in the courtroom.
Action and clever tech is all well and good but I hope the next book has more of the deft legal sparring - these scenes are the USP of the series.
But it is a fascinating and terrifying peek into an American mindset last seen in the storming of the Capitol.

America is a scary place
