About this listen

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Orphan's Tale

How have I been lucky enough to come here, to be alive, when so many others are not? I should have died . But I am here.

1945. Surviving the brutality of a Nazi prison camp, Marta Nederman is lucky to have escaped with her life. Recovering from the horror, she meets Paul, an American soldier who gives her hope of a happier future. But their plans to meet in London are dashed when Paul's plane crashes.

Devastated and pregnant, Marta marries Simon, a caring British diplomat, and glimpses the joy that home and family can bring. But her happiness is threatened when she learns of a Communist spy in British intelligence, and that the one person who can expose the traitor is connected to her past.

This had potential for a good plot line but it became a bit cheesy towards the end.

Started well, a bit predictable.

Unputdownable ….. I have just finished listening to this one, and wow just wow what a ride it’s been from start to finish, It’s absolutely brilliant.

There were parts when I was literally holding my breath or gasping,

The narrator is fantastic bringing me characters to life as always, and the story has so many espionage twists with the backdrop love story …..I can not wait for more.

The first book I really enjoyed so thought I’d give this second one a go, am so glad I did as I’ve enjoyed every single second.

The absolute BEST1

There are a few mistakes I.e. we did not have duvets in this country at the time of the story it would be sheets and blankets
The author talks a great deal about the scents/smells of different people, however when Paul carries Marta in the forest after shooting the bald man she does not recognise his smell and is surprised when he reveals himself, even though his “familiar aroma” is mentioned as soon as he holds her agin

Enjoyed the book
