About this listen

It was the greatest medical breakthrough. It became the perfect killer.

When a catastrophic mistake leaves his wife, Clara, in a coma, Dr. Elliott Harrison is consumed by guilt – and determined to find the truth. His investigation leads him to a remote Scottish island, where Clara had been consulting for an exclusive biotech clinic.

Hoping for answers, Elliott joins the team developing a revolutionary implantable medical device. But when islanders begin dying under suspicious circumstances, he uncovers a chilling truth: the technology he trusted to save lives has been turned into a weapon – and the woman he loves may be at the heart of it all.

The Dreadmoor Experiment is a twisty, atmospheric thriller that blends the visionary science of Blake Crouch's Recursion with the emotional intensity of Alex Michaelides's The Silent Patient.

"Weaves medical tension with moral decay in a world that feels terrifyingly plausible. The emotional punches land like sledgehammers." — Hayley B.

"Without a doubt, one of my favorite reads in 2025… A masterpiece." — Olga F.

A really good story, well read in a way that adds to the tension. it's great to read/ listen to a thriller that doesn't rely in a convoluted Scooby Doo style ending that takes up half the book. 😀

The beginning of this in an NHS hospital and some of the plot points are so fantastically written that they are almost too real to read. I liked the characters, the writing, the plot, the narration - basically everything apart from how sad it made me feel, which is a testament to the skill with which it is written.

Excellent Writing

In 2020 there was a chilling pandemic. We were scared and told to stay home - we were blessed our NHS worked so hard to keep us safe. Do you remember that fear of the unknown and no cure.
In this medical drama - set a few years ahead - a new virus is emerging . Be guaranteed that this book read so dramatically is 100% medically accurate as you feel chills run down your spine and your heart is broken as is the future NHS in the story. I’ve read this book but the narration is truly setting my imagination on fire. We know about big pharmaceutical corporations now - imagine if they controlled our very lives.

Do you remember the fear?

An extremely well written medical thriller that is scarily realistic. It's easy to imagine this really happening in our changing world. Great mixture of characters, good and bad, a real edge of the seat listen expertly narrated as always by Aubrey Parsons. Highly Recommended.

This is a fantastic novel, which I can recommend 100%. The structure of the story and way that the characters are written are all brilliant. You understand their motivations and decisions are logical. The way that the world was built gradually is expertly done and believable. I don't want to describe the story too much because I don't want to spoil it, but I was gripped throughout and finished the audiobook in only a few days!

The narration is also brilliant and the narrator suits this novel and Scottish setting very well.

This is the first novel from the author that I have experienced and I will definitely be eager to read the next one!

The story, characters and world building are fantastic.
