Intriguing story but let down by the narrator!
All the male characters were terrible and the 15 year old son sounded like a cartoon character!

Fabulous story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love all of Barbara's books and have them all in print. Have recently repurchased them all on audible so I can listen to them in the car. Best decision ever! loved the plot, and the characters. very cleverly spun. She has a real gift of mixing storytelling with a bit of history just to anchor it as feasible. can't wait for the next book. No pressure Mrs Erskine, but please get a move on...I would like to read it. 😊

wonderful storytelling at its best.

This book is kind of like Outlander but nowhere near as dramatic or exciting. Nothing much seemed to happen and it was all rather sedate but all the same rather enjoyable. I read previous reviews complaining about the narration but I found her tone very much fitted this book (and I'm not Welsh so happily ignorant of any pronunciation!).

A pleasant rather than gripping listen

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Such a good story from start to end. Every character has a place, whether you liked them or not! The narrator was excellent, instilling the right atmosphere which you could imagine in your mind. I was quite sad for it to end. Highly recommended.

A wonderful story
