Dick Francis rarely disappoints me. This is one of my favourites among his novels. As usual, his central character is a man of decency and integrity, and immensely likeable; I particularly enjoyed this one's relationships with his work colleagues and others, and the mature and balanced way in which he deals with his wealth, not allowing it to interfere with his life, which he wants to count for something. He is tenacious in the face of danger, and it is gratfying to see the villain progressing unknowingly towards his defeat.

The Canadian backdrop is a delight. Dick Francis has an obvious love for the country and people, making this a heart-warming novel.

Tony Britton at his narrating best but there are some very odd background noises - from planes flying over to water going down a plughole. If you can ignore it, great story.
