Having returned to Herouxville, capital of Vestonia, Max Renard has found himself drawn into the dangerous game of courtly intrigue.

King Carl III is ill and weakened by his wounds. This leads to tensions between the various princely parties at court. I have been looking forward to to this book having read all the others. I can say I wasn't disappointed and finished listening in 2 days.

a very good listen on audible with good dictation about the continuing adventures of max, no harems but a compelling story of magic fighting and a bit of slice of life thrown in.

Prior to this book. I've enjoyed the series, it's was always a bit trashy and it was pure escapism and that was what I was looking for. But this book shows a drop of in quality in terms of character writing and pacing. The villains in particular are problematic. They are so cartoonishly stupid and irrational it got in the way of immersing myself into the story. Couple that with the non-stop glazing of the main character that it just became irritating the listen to.
