About this listen

One of Rosamunde Pilcher's classic stories, now available as an unabridged audiobook.

Sitting on a California beach at summer's end, Jane Marsh thinks back to her childhood at the estate called Elvie in a remote corner of Scotland. She remembers not only the heather-covered hills and the lonesome loch but her grandmother...and, of course, Sinclair.

She has secretly dreamed of marrying rakishly handsome Sinclair and settling at Elvie forever. Then an urgent visit from her grandmother's lawyer becomes the catalyst for her return to Scotland, where waiting for her is passion, not gentle love, and the chilling realisation that she may be ready to wed the wrong man.

I was really surprised at Jenny Bond. Whatever made her talk like that when she was Jane. She always had a lovely way of speaking. Anyway for me it was irritating to such an extent that I could only listen in small doses and am pleased it is over. Very sad.

Good story but irritating narration.

A simple but satisfying story. Shame about the annoying narration which, especially for the main character, was sickeningly arch and little-girlish.

Shame about narration

The narrator's portrayal of men's voices was off-putting. they did not sound like men - it would have been better to just read the story straight.

Narrator spoiled story

Lovely story and great to hear the Scottish Highland locations, some real names of places whilst good fun trying to figure out the actual place names of the slightly changed ones.

Good isten
