Summary

*** THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES TOP FIVE BESTSELLER ***

Since its initial publication in 1978, The Stand has been considered No. 1 bestselling author and master storyteller Stephen King's seminal masterpiece of apocalyptic fiction, with millions of copies sold and adapted twice for television. Although there are other extraordinary works exploring the unravelling of human society, none have been as influential as this iconic novel - with generations of writers impacted by its dark yet ultimately hopeful vision of the end and new beginning of civilization, and its stunning array of unforgettable characters.

Now for the first time, Stephen King has fully authorized a return to the harrowing world of The Stand through this original short story anthology as presented by award-winning authors and editors Christopher Golden and Brian Keene. Bringing together some of today's greatest and most visionary writers, The End of the World as We Know It features remarkable, all-new stories set during and after the events of The Stand - brilliant, terrifying, and painfully human tales that will resonate with readers everywhere as an essential companion to the classic bestselling novel.©2025 Christopher Golden and Brian Keene

I bought for the specific reason to listen to Poppy Z Brite's first work in nearly 20 years and it's amazing.

The other stories I've listen to so far are all top notch. Well worth your time.

Excellent Work!

I listen to The Stand often and now having new stories with some clever interwoven characters and some exceptional expanding parts and alternative themes has left me wanting even more! Really enjoyed this audio version.

Really enjoyed the stories, especially being such a fan of The Stand. However, the female narrator’s inflection was hugely distracting.

Great stories, but distracting narration.

I loved the book The Stand and listened to it again last year. It didn’t disappoint as sometimes books do when you return to them after many years.

Was excited to listen to this companion book but I think that it wasn’t edited as well as it could be. It’s too long and too many stories have been allowed in. Some are brilliant and some are not as you would expect but I think the editor should have rejected more of the stories. Some are quite samey and some are quite boring.

I loved the first 1/3 rd but I lost the interest as it went on too long.

I would recommend it as a book to dip in to. Listen to one or two then listen to other books. Not one to listen to straight.

Good and Bad.

I’m still listening but wanted to jump on to say please don’t be put off by people not liking either of the two narrators.. listen for yourself, it’s too good a book to miss and they are really good!
