The stories were marred by the use of words Watson would never use, "sidewalks", Watson would say pavements. "blocks " the doctor would give distances in yards. "Not a dime", we do not use "dimes" in the UK, we would say "not a penny". These Americanisms jar on the ear and should have been corrected by the proofreader.
