About this listen

From best-selling novelist Wilbur Smith, The Eye of the Tiger is an exciting adventure set amongst the peaceful islands of the Indian Ocean, where a man's past returns to hunt him down.

'I was looking down, watching the shark come. It seemed to swell up in size as it rushed towards me. Every detail was burned into my mind in those frantic seconds. I saw the hog's snout with the two slotted nostrils, the golden eyes with the black pupils like arrowheads, the broad blue back from which stood the tall executioner's blade of the dorsal fin.'

Harry Fletcher, a man with a chequered past, has reformed and is making an honest living as a charter skipper fishing for big game in the seductive waters of the Indian Ocean. Suddenly men from the world of violence Harry has put behind him overturn his good intentions, involving him in a hectic race to recover a fabulous treasure from an ancient wreck.

I like this story but the narrator had very little flow which made for an awkward listen. He added extra full stops to every sentence and kept getting lost in the accents of the characters. Pity.

Good story, lumpy narration

Great story excellently narrated by Ben Onwukwe. Classic treasure hunt with good action scenes and some truly nasty villains.

Very good romp

A good Listen! With an adventure in every chapter this tale has all the components of a search for lost treasure -a tropical island, killer sharks in the sea, a ruthless rival , and a gallant hero with a beautiful girl.
The narrator reads in a style which suggests permanent menace and danger even when there isn't any, which rather softens the impact. It is fully justified in the final chapters however when our hero slaughters his evil rival and his crew against impossible odds.
This book carried me through many sleepless nights ....... or, did it cause them perhaps!

A Swashbuckling Tale
