A mysterious letter from Spain. A surprising new beginning...

Fall in love this summer with Her Last Promise, a gripping, heart-rending story of how hope can blossom in the ruins of tragedy and of the redeeming power of love. From number one best-selling author Kathryn Hughes.

Tara Richards was just a girl when she lost her mother. Years later, when Tara receives a letter from a London solicitor, its contents shake her to the core. Someone has left her a key to a safe deposit box.

In the box lies an object that will change everything Tara thought she knew and lead her on a journey to deepest Spain in search of the answers that have haunted her for 40 years.

Violet Skye regrets her decision to travel abroad leaving her young daughter behind. As the sun dips below the mountains, she reminds herself she is doing this for their future. Tonight, 4th June 1978, will be the start of a new life for them. This night will indeed change Violet's destiny, in the most unexpected of ways....

After a summer of reading Chick Lits, summer romances etc I fancied a book with some depth.
This was my first Kathryn Hughes book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially that I hadn’t managed to work out the whole plot before I’d got half was through the book 😆
A tale of struggle, secrets and the love of family.
One of the most realistic I’ve read In a long time.
Beautifully read by Rachel Atkins as usual.
The only thing I thought she could have done better with was Tara’s age at the start of the story. Her and Toms declaring love for each other was a bit off for a 14 year old.
I’d love to find there’s a sequel, but either way I’m definitely looking forward to my next Kathryn Hughes Story 💜

A Story of Substance

This story kept me interested. I liked the fact there were different threads that all came together. I will definitely list to other books by Kathryn Hughes Although some storylines were a bit predictable, this was counterbalanced by a great number of unexpected twists and turns.
I will certainly read/listen to other books by Kathryn Hughes, and the narrator was very good.

Enjoyable Story

I really enjoyed this book, as I have all Kathryn Hughes books. She is a superbly gifted storyteller with a knack of being able to keep her readers completely engaged. I loved the book and listened to it in almost one sitting. I do feel the ending was a little rushed however and think it would have benefited from a couple of extra chapters to tie up the ending a little more completely . It seemed a little unfinished in my view. It was however an excellent read and I would recommend.

Great book but a couple of more chapters needed

I really loved this book - the story was gripping and the narrator was brilliant! I did feel it had a lot of "padding" which wasn't really relevant to the story but I still loved it. Highly recommended

Very enjoyable!
