I’ve enjoyed other books from this writer, including his Warhammer novels and his earlier book in the Descent universe, Doom of Fallowhearth. That book was a blast. A nice little murder mystery in a fantasy setting.

This book was a slog. I couldn’t even finish it. Didn’t care about a single character. I was disappointed with this.

I also struggled with the narration. His voice was great and his characters were good. However, he read all scenes with the same intonation. No drama. No increase in speed during an intense scene. This wasn’t helped by the fact that it sounded like a low quality recording. There was just something odd about it. Like It was recorded on a phone.

This was rough.
