Long before the world of the Ganymeans blew apart millennia ago, the strange race of giants had already vanished. All that remained of them was a wrecked ship abandoned on a frozen moon of Jupiter. Now Earth’s scientists are there, determined to ferret out the secret of the lost race. But when suddenly the Ganymeans return, they bring with them answers that will reveal the secret of our own as well.

Critic reviews

"Scientists’ efforts to uncover the unexpected genetic link between Terran and Minervan life is aided by the equally unexpected reappearance of a Minervan ship. Interesting reading for sf enthusiasts and for those who enjoy a methodical analysis of a complex theory." ( Kliatt)

After discovery on the moon of Charlie, the body of an human male in a bright red spacesuit, shown to be 25,000,000 years old, in the previous book, Inherit the Stars, Hogan now moves on to the question of what happened to the Ganymeans? And again, the discovery of another body, this time that of an alien spaceship buried in ice, helps o provides some answers when text accidental operation of a disagree call brings an alien space ship hurtling towards them: one containing the aliens themselves.

First published in the 1970s,the book is of it's time, ideas more than characterisation or action. But what ideas! Fasciinating, well developed and how I wish I'd read it when it first came out. Still.A good read now, though, and well performed (if the download is slightly speeded up) by John Pruden, the timbre of is voice perfect to set mood for the time.

Free with the Audible Plus programme, this book is recommended e all S.F. aficionados.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and the previous book. I thought the writer had a uncanny insight into future Technology, and the whole concept of the story is fascinating. It can seem a little hard going at times, but it’s well worth it – stick with it.

An excellent book

A really good space opera that isn’t based on combat constantly. Some strange ideas but very worth a listen

Good Space Opera

The second in the series and very enjoyable. Its actually great to listen to a story not filled with "wars with monsters". It's a very refreshing yarn. Looking forward to the next instalment. Only hope the final two books are released into Audible's library soon.

Wonderful Space Opra.
