At Santa Cruz Central High School, they called them the misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos. But most of us knew them as the Lost Boys....

Miller Stratton is a survivor. After a harrowing childhood of poverty, he will do anything it takes to find security for himself and his mom. He’s putting all his hopes and dreams in the fragile frame of his guitar and the beauty he creates with its strings and his soulful voice.

Until Violet. No one expects to meet the love of their life at age 13. But the spunky rich girl steals Miller’s heart and refuses to give it back.

Violet McNamara’s life hasn’t been as simple as it looks. Her picture-perfect family is not so perfect after all. Her best friend, Miller, is her one constant, and she is determined not to ruin their friendship with romantic complications.

But the heart wants what it wants. As Miller’s star begins to rise to stratospheric heights, what will it take for Violet to realize that she’s the girl in all of his love songs?

I loved the story, it was just a bit long winded in the middle but finally got going towards the end. I would recommend this book.

Great story got a bit stuck in the middle but glad I persevered with it.

A really enjoyable book with twists in the story away form the usual, recommended listen

My standards for a certain type of feel-good, ‘know-what-you’re-getting,’ romantic fiction are not equable to how I rate literature with a little more heft. And due to life-circumstances voiding my ability to imbibe more literary choices due to a need to avoid a surfeit of graphic suffering and miserable aka ‘realistic’ endings, I now listen to all manner of extremely light, feel-good love stories.

Unable to shirk off my love of well-drawn characters with depth and my love of deft storytelling and the beauty of finely honed language there are sadly too few authors who I really adore listening to.
Too many books in this field are saccharine beyond description, require a protagonist to be fatuously myopic in the arena of the object of their affection, are set at Christmas, or have narrators who seem to specialise in a particular type of infantilising and hyperbolic tone.
Despite this rather ungenerous list of complaints I still listen to a lot of content where much of the above applies.

I nearly let my own too-swift critiquing judgement kick in before I’d given this title a chance given the age of the main characters. Happily I recognised my own hypocrisy (I’ll give more universally feted authors who write for a younger audience my time).
I was swiftly drawn in to a poignant, easy listen with thoroughly likeable characters, with more emotional depth and a general keep-me-genuinely-caring-and-interested vibe, than some popular authors I lean on to fill my audio-reading requirements.

Thanks to audible for including Emma Scott’s enjoyable well-narrated story in the membership catalogue.

One of the best in Audible Plus’s catalogue if you appreciate well-told feel-good romance

I laughed and cried so much through this heartfelt book.
A good one for young adults upwards.
Raunchy in places but not too over the top.
And heart wrenching in places you don't expect.
A must read!
