After escaping a life that nearly broke her, Dominique Dupont is finally free and living a life she once believed wasn't possible. Robyn Diamont's strength and resilience were shaped by a past she rarely speaks of—a past that shaped her into a woman capable of loving deeply, despite everything she has endured. But freedom doesn't erase scars, and love doesn't silence the echoes of trauma.
As Dominique and Robyn begin to build a life together, past wounds and painful truths threaten to fracture the fragile peace they've found. And as external pressures mount, the bond they've forged—born from survival and fate—faces its greatest tests.
In the end, will love be enough for them to choose each other, and to overcome everything that life has in store for them? Or are there some things that not even love can survive?
Contains mature themes.

Von Triessen has this incredible way of blending trauma, resilience, and romance so it feels raw, hopeful, and deeply human all at once. I gladly lost sleep over this book because I was completely pulled into Dominique and Robyn’s journey. A lot happens in their story, but it never once felt unrealistic or over the top. It all unfolded in a way that made sense for who they are and what they’ve lived through.
As a Black Jamaican bisexual woman myself, Robyn’s conflict with going back to Jamaica, especially given the country’s stance on the LGBTQIA+ community, struck me in a deeply personal way. There were moments where I just sat still and listened because the writing and storytelling were that good, that honest, that close to home.
I also loved how the book centres around women’s rights, explores intergenerational trauma and abuse with truth and compassion, and doesn’t shy away from showing how corrupt politics shapes people’s lives, particularly those who are marginalised. There’s so much depth here, but it never feels heavy for the sake of it. It feels purposeful.
The passion, the romance, and most of all the SPICE! All of it was devourable. Exciting, grounded, intimate, and always rooted in the connection between these two women. I loved that the latter part of the book focused exclusively on them and their evolution as a couple.
Abby Craden’s narration (as always!) deserves its own shoutout. She brings such emotional depth, clarity, humour and warmth to the story that it genuinely enhances the listener experience. Her performance makes the quiet moments deeply intimate and the intense moments feel even more alive.
I don’t know how Skye Von Triessen does it. I only have praise for this book. I felt everything listening to it. Laughter, curiosity, frustration, sadness, lust, excitement, pride. What a powerful story! One I can’t wait to revisit.
