About this listen

On a strange journey to drum up the greatest American story ever told, long-time journalist Winston travels to Appalachia in order to cover the Rebel Counterculture accurately and dispel early writings from New York journalists. These early writings were known as "Yellow Journalism", a style of writing that essentially serves as hit pieces - typically aimed at the Appalachian region. These stories would portray the inhabitants as participating in acts such as illegal gambling and moonshining, along with having racist traits and other strong criminal backgrounds.

Winston is determined to go where no writer from New York ever has, but after traveling deep into the West Virginia hills, he soon realizes there may have been a good reason for the writers from New York to stay far away from those mountains.
