About this listen

1940. Britain has invaded neutral Iceland, but Daphne Devine has bigger problems. She has sailed into allied territory to track down a clairvoyant suspected of collaborating with the Nazis.

As an undercover operative, Daphne must thread her way through a land steeped in shadow and riddled with secrets. But when a new lead pulls her North into Strandir, land of sorcerers, what she uncovers sets off a deadly chain reaction. The stakes are raised, and suddenly it’s not just her life on the line, but the fate of her entire team.

In a world of deceiving occultists and age-old magic, Daphne must use every ounce of cunning and craft at her disposal to outwit enemy agents if she wants to emerge unscathed and get her team out alive.

Firstly I found the narrator really easy to listen to and she did a great job of switching through the different accents as well as alternating the genders with her voice. I really enjoyed this book not only for the emotional rollercoaster of our heroine’s attempt to complete her mission, but I like to take away a little bit of knowledge from historical fiction and this book has introduced me to a different perspective of WWII that has captivated me - exactly what I hope to achieve at the end of a novel!
While concentrating on the fascinating aspects of the occult during this time, the bleak beauty of Iceland and Daphne’s attempts to adjust to her new environment with its unique customs - Syd Moore does not detract from the painful reality of the war which brings tears to my eyes.
Can’t wait to see (or hear) where Daphne ends up next, in the meantime I’m now desperate to visit Iceland!

Fascinating perspective on WWII

Enjoyed the first good in the series but this was even better. I love how we got to follow Daphne in her assignment. Good characters and setting. The story developments well and very heart warming. Really recommend it.
