About this listen

Mike Harris, author of Sheep’s Clothing and Sheep’s Clothing: The Pack, invites you to listen to his Grimmoire. Six classic tales, twisted and distorted through the lens of his unique vision.

Two siblings, lost in the woods, are offered shelter by a peculiar host with a monstrous appetite. A visit to grandma's house comes to a grisly end. A young maiden makes a pact with a sinister imp. A boy leaves home to discover the true meaning of fear. These twisted fairytales and more await within the cursed bindings of The Grimmoire.

This is my first time experiencing anything from Mike Harris, and I must say I was impressed. The writing felt of the time period of the fairy tales and really took you to your childhood with a morbid twist.

I have to admit I enjoyed the first half of the book more than the last, but that may because I had never heard the last three tales before, so had nothing to compare them too.

The narration from Big Bear Audio really made this audiobook POP! The way her voiced the characters to match the writing of the book made it feel like a Shakespearean performance than an audiobook. The kings felt grand, the children felt fragile and the villains felt menacing, all voiced perfectly.

A great twist on the classics.

Good pace in the performance, which suited these fairytales well. These stories reminded me of Roald Dahls "Revolting Rhymes" just kicked up several notches. I enjoyed them well and hopes there will be other anthologies with tales from other places. 1001 nights, Asbjørnsen and Moe etc..

Probably closer to some of the originals than todays versions.
