About this listen

Condemned for murder, Dez Moore awaits the hangman’s noose. Though he killed to defend a woman, the court shows no mercy, and, resigned, he attempts to make amends with his estranged sister. His letter bidding his sister good-bye falls into the wrong hands, and suddenly, he is facing another future - one that may exist, thanks to a man he doesn’t know.

Once a poor mudlark, Carl Reis is a powerful businessman with an erratic impulse to save desperate people. When Dez’s letter comes to him, he takes an interest in the prisoner. But the charming and disruptive Dez Moore proves to be more attractive than any of his other rescues. He stirs urges Carl has long suppressed, and makes him yearn for a future even he could not foresee. One with the lively Mr. Moore by his side and in his bed.

Long used to doing for others - some might say controlling them - while maintaining his solitary existence, Carl struggles to keep Dez from breaching his walls. But the tenacious Dez will do all it takes to capture his rescuer’s heart.

Really enjoyed this book.A letter falling into the wrong hands saves Fed's life. The way it portrayed Dez and Carl's relationship was well done. Really enjoyed listening to Mark's narration

Summer Devon’s historical novel The Hanged Man’s Hero is a moving and inspirational story of a condemned man’s reprieve from the gallows. It’s impressive how Ms. Devon captures the somber mood in the opening scenes. I got chills as Dez describes his conviction and imprisonment, then goes on to contemplate his death by hanging, and reflects upon his life.

Don’t worry, I’m not spoiling anything when I tell you that Dez is reprieved and the tone of the story changes significantly. All the clever interactions between characters, the interesting secondary characters, and the steamy romance I look for in a Summer Devon novel are here in spades.

Coming that close to death causes Dez to refocus his priorities. Making a point to enjoy everyday experiences and take nothing for granted, it’s easy to appreciate Dez’s dogged determination to pursue a life of peace and happiness. Very uplifting, and a message it’s always nice to remember.

I listened to the audio edition of The Hanged Man’s Hero and Mark James turns in a marvelous performance. I love his rich, expressive voice for Summer Devon’s M/M historical novels. Mr. James’ range of British accents is wonderful, and adds so much to the experience.
