About this listen

Centered deep in the Alaskan bush, the Homestead offers a primal refuge for young men and women disenchanted by the modern era. Only accessible via helicopter or a series of rugged, treacherous trails, this Thoreauvian utopia stands as a testament to humanity’s ability to thrive in its natural state.

But when a grizzly bear attack kicks off an increasingly violent chain of events, the secrets of the Homestead’s founder, Augustin Stark, risk being brought into the light. As he grapples to keep the family he’s created together, a malevolent outside force joins the fray: one that threatens to destroy not only the community but the people themselves.

This book was spoiled by the narration, at times I nearly gave up on it the worst narration I’ve had in any audiobook I at one point thought it was AI that was reading the book. But saying that I did persist and enjoy the story.

Awful narration

I’m normally into supernatural horror but decided to try something different. So glad I did. Great story that kept me hooked from start to finish. Narrator was great. Now onto another book by this author. Give it a try

frim start to finish the story had me hooked leading to a dramatic conclusion brilliantly read.

what a journey

I almost gave up on this book, mainly due to the narrator. He has a very flat delivery, which I could put up with more easily than the narrators who give audio books an over-dramatic delivery and a host of silly voices... What put me off, and almost made me give up listening, was the dreadful mispronounciations - after the third time he pronounced 'foliage' as 'FOIL-age' I was about ready to throw my kindle out the window...Just the thought of how many more times I was going to have to hear foil age... and bearing in mind that the action takes place in the Alaskan forest, that's a lot of foliage...

The story - although fairly predictable - and characters - also pretty predictable - kept me listening to the end, and I enjoyed it enough to want to learn how things ended up.
