About this listen
Abridged edition. The third in the series of the classic fantasy tales – The Chronicles of Narnia. Read by the unforgettable Sir Michael Hordern.
“Where I come from, nearly all the animals talk,” said the Horse. “The happy land of Narnia.” His whinny sounded very like a sigh.
In The Horse and His Boy, Shasta, a boy on the verge of being sold into slavery, meets Bree, a talking horse who has been kidnapped from Narnia and longs to return there. Together they decide to run away in search of his beloved home. They flee on a wild and dangerous journey through strange cities, eerie tombs and harsh deserts – in search of Narnia, where there is freedom and safety.

It’s an underrated book in the Narnia series, but I do think the representation of Calormen is a bit…problematic and sometimes it’s hard to ignore that in 2022.
Sublime nostalgia!

Beautiful story, reading and music - magical

The Calomore society is similar to Arabia and India, two lands I enjoy.
The Narnian harp tune got me. So mystic.
Aslan's theme got me; fitting the majestic father figure.
The music which played when Tumnus was introduced got me; fitting the loveable rascal.
The hermit rocked when he spoke to Bree in his humbling.
Lucy rocked. A queen who is brave and strong yet gentle.
Michael Hordern's was the best voice for Rabidash; how he voiced him throwing tantrums over his wounded ego including his karmic defeat, and his freaking out during his karmic transformation into a donkey for his arrogance.
A classic.
