About this listen

The stakes are high, and time is running out...

When a charred body is discovered on a burning boat at Horsea Marina, Detective Inspector Andy Horton is called to investigate. The victim is identified as Tom Brundall, a wealthy financier from Guernsey, who was terminally ill. Puzzled, Horton wonders why a dying man would return to his hometown of Portsmouth and who would want to kill him. As Horton digs deeper, another body surfaces, forcing him to grapple with not just the victims' pasts but also the unresolved mystery of his own mother's disappearance three decades earlier. As he pieces the puzzle together, it becomes evident that he's facing a ruthless foe who determined to bury the truth. Can Horton catch the killer and find out what happened to his mother? This absolutely gripping detective mystery is perfect for fans of Ann Cleeves, Joy Ellis, and Rachel McLean.

Pauline Rowson is the author of twenty-four gripping, fast-paced, atmospheric crime novels including the popular SOLENT MURDER MYSTERY series featuring the rugged and troubled DI Andy Horton. She is a member of the Crime Writers' Association and the Society of Authors.

The book started with an (unexplained) sentence in German.... A taste of anomalies to follow, as I soon discovered. The story is interesting, with unexpected twists, and the narrator is good - but the recording quality is awful. Some parts were repeated, while whole sections were missed out and chapters sometimes ended mid-sentence. Impossible to follow the thread of the story so I was obliged to finish it on Kindle. Whatever happened to quality-control?

Good story & narrator - terrible recording!

This is book 3 in the series and like the other books has lots of plot twist and keeps you guessing to the end.

Our favourite Harley riding detective is put through his paces again while battling through emotional and physical difficulties.

Why does someone keep on attacking him and his boat and bike ?
Will he find out what happened to him mum ?
Will he find the killer ?
Will he see his daughter again ? . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . .

Colin Mace is his usual superb narrator and brings all the characters to life.

Another great book by Pauline Ranson

Having listened to the first two Portsmouth books I just went for this, after a period of time the track crackled and then started at a random place, tried to sort out but a little while later the same thing happened, it was like listening to a vinyl record and having the turn table knocked.
Tried to download and start again and the same thing happened, then highlighted the book deleted and then downloaded from Audible, everything worked well and the jump was not repeated.
Enjoyed the book, and the next waiting for book 5 to be released.

Worrying but ok at the end

brilliant, love the fact that it delves more into DI Hortons, mother's past, and connection to the characters
