About this listen
Can twenty-four hours on an island paradise lead them to an unexpected reunion?
When Maggie accepts one last commission before retiring from journalism, she’s given twenty-four hours on a remote tropical island to interview former Hollywood heart-throb Ed Cavanagh. There are just two problems: firstly, Ed doesn’t want anything to do with Maggie’s exclusive, and secondly, he’s the only man who ever broke her heart…
It’s a scenario she never expected—to be in paradise with a man she first met as a teenager but has been trying to forget for the past fifteen years. As each precious hour brings back memories of their tangled love story, Maggie is forced to confront the painful twists of fate that kept them apart. Was a different future for them ever possible? Is it still possible now?
They’ve both been burned by love in the past, but as the clock ticks down on their time on the island; will this fleeting reunion extinguish the spark between them for good? Or is it one last chance for Maggie and Ed to rekindle that flame to live the love story they always thought possible?
This heartwarming and poignant story of forgiveness, hope and love is perfect for fans of Josie Silver, Sally Page and Lucy Diamond.

The plot works out slowly (but doesn't drag at all) and there's a little twist towards the end which I hadn't anticipated, just at the point where the signs were beginning to suggest a rather melancholy denoument. Descriptions of everything from scenery; clothing; colour and food to emotions which swing through all kinds of different arcs, is detailed enough for you to feel the heat; touch the curls; experience the noise and hubbub of a crowd or party etc.
The narration is excellent. It's well paced and Clare Corbetts voice is melodious, introducing different voices with great effect. Switches between places and the different times over which the story evolves could have been clumsy but are managed extremely well. The narrative moves slowly forwards from the '70s, chapters being interspersed with an almost hourly record of what is happening in the "now" of the action. Somehow, the author manages to make the listener impatient to know what happens next in each time zone.
I'm glad I experienced this as an audiobook. Had I bought a written copy I wouldn't have been able to resist the urge to skip ahead and try and find out what the ending of each chapter (and, ultimately, the whole story) would be. A wonderful, gentle, heartwarming listen without being cutesy; saccharin or hugely implausible. A definite 5 stars; one I'll listen to again and one which I'll now buy in hard copy. I'll also be looking out for more of Fiona Collins' work!
Outstanding audiobook - one of the best yet.
