Summary

It's midnight and in the midst of an ice storm when Claudia Dance boards the bright yellow bus to Lacelean Street, a destination she has never heard of. She has no coat, no luggage, and no clue as to why she left home. In fact, she has no memory of her past whatsoever, and yet she feels compelled to make the trip.

She will come to realize that salvation lies within the red-brick house at the end of Lacelean Street, a salvation granted by the strange power that dwells within. Sanity will be questioned, limits tested, and answers revealed, but at what price?

I never would have chosen this book but because it was included in Audible plus catalogue I have discovered a brilliant new (to me) author. Great narrator too.

Well paced and heartfelt

This is not horror, but it’s an enjoyable read nonetheless. A journey to find redemption for the three protagonists.

Good story

This just showed up in my recommended and I decided to jump straight in, didn't read the synopsis, just pressed play so I didn't know what iw as expecting to hear. I have to admit it was pleasantly different. a ghost or unseen force, forcing isolation on 3 people to force them to face and deal with grief which transforms their life, it definitely had th claustrophobic elements to it even though they had free range of the manor and the house, and it has plenty of unseen ways of playing out. One thing I struggled to understand was the snake tattoo, was it a magic tattoo or was it the manor that was able to make the tattoo do what it did, maybe I missed something in the story at some point? But other than that I'd definitely recommend if your looking for something different. And it's very well narrated accents on point, and will look out for other books narrated by Mary Philips.

Pleasantly different

I LOVED this book. so many layers. characters were brilliant and complex without you realising it. a great deep delve into the human mind. cleverly written. will definitely listen again as it thoroughly deserves a repeat listen!

Not at all what I expected and not something I would usually be drawn to, but i was looking for something to fill the gap between my previous (long!) book and my next (also a long one!) and this was just the right length...

It's not a ghost story, or a 'twist in the tail" mystery, just a very odd, rather unique and thoroughly enjoyable afternoon read. So much so that I'm going to try another of her books ('Mosaic') before moving on ! Would definitely recommend this, although it starts slow it's worth sticking with it to the end.
