A clone grapples with his sense of self against the backdrop of the dangerous world of drug trafficking in this acclaimed and internationally bestselling young adult classic about what it means to be human.

Matt Alacrán wasn’t born. He was harvested.

His DNA came from El Patrón, the drug-lord ruler of the country of Opium. Most people hate and fear clones like Matt—except for El Patrón. El Patrón loves Matt as he loves himself, because Matt is himself.

As Matt struggles to understand his existence, he is threatened by a sinister cast of characters, and realizes escape is his only chance to survive. But escape from the Alacrán Estate is no guarantee of freedom.

Would you listen to The House of the Scorpion again? Why?

This is not a book I would normally choose but on a roll of listening to Raul Esparza after Under the Dome and really enjoyed it

Who was your favorite character and why?

Got to be Tamlin, tough but fair

Have you listened to any of Raul Esparza’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Became slightly obsessed with Raul Esparza in svu and then realised he also narrated Under the Dome which I had just finished listening to. I love the narration, parts in Spanish are just a dream. Scottish accent is a bit dodgy but it's so bad it's good - Scottish with a touch of Irish!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The relationship with Tamlin

Great listen

I bought this as a random listen, not knowing much about the story or the author. But I have to say I haven't enjoyed an audiobook so much in a long time. A totally capitivating tale, with wonderful characters. I was drawn in and hooked almost immediately. It's been my commute listen for a few weeks and I've had to pull myself away from it, always eager to know what will happen next.
The narration was just perfect. I loved the character interpretations and thought the story was extremely well told. The voices were great (although Tam Lin’s Scottish accent was all over the place, in a likeable way!)
I'm all set for the sequel. So pleased the narrator remains. :)

What a delightful listen.
