About this listen

Humour, mystery, and a time leap back to the 1970s. Could you relive your life and change the past? However, history always repeats … or does it?… Jason Apsley is about to find out.

Book one — Jason Apsley’s Second Chance

Following a bizarre twist of fate, Jason finds himself in 1976, forty years in the past, six months before he’s due to be born … fair to say, a somewhat tricky situation.

Although faced with the challenges of living in yesteryear, time travel offers Jason a second chance and an opportunity to improve his life. Which, considering the debacle of his first forty years, wouldn’t be difficult.

As our unwitting time traveller soon discovers, meddling with the past has consequences for the future. However, Jason soon realises history must change … lives are at stake.

Book Two — Ahead of his Time

Five months have elapsed since Jason Apsley grabbed his second chance. It’s now 1977, and those time-travelling calamitous months of 1976 are buried in the past. Life is perfect … or is it?

Will the arrival of another time traveller cause Jason’s new life to unravel? As the chaos ensues, his new loved ones begin to question his very existence.

While Jason desperately tries to hold his new life together, the evil Colney brothers – a family with whom Jason discovers he’s inexplicably entwined – unearth the truth and plan to take revenge.

Will time repeat, or can Jason, once again, alter the future?

Book Three – Force of Time

Ten years have elapsed since Jason Apsley grabbed his second chance, and the events of the late ’70s are now just a distant memory … or so he thought.

When the unwelcome arrival of his nemesis brings the inconceivable events of the previous decade to the surface, causing the inquisitive Detective Inspector French to delve into Jason’s past, his life begins to unravel.

Will time repeat itself, or can Jason, once again, alter the future?

Unfortunately I cannot listen to the narrator at all, totally the wrong voice for Jason and the accents are really bad especially the South African on, tried several times but I just cant listen to him. Disappointing

The story is amazing

I did finish the three books that came with this purchase because I was invested in the storyline and really wanted to hear it through. But there were a few times I considered giving up. The main problem I found was the constant, constant scene ( time) setting . It did get slightly less as we went through but was infuriating in places. Every single item used , eaten or experienced was overly described. Every single thing was referred to by brand name and any other relevance like the advertising slogan etc. it was just far too much . I didn’t need to know the brand of matches used for instance. I do understand there has to be some scene setting but it took me out of the story .

Mixed feelings

I was really really invested in the story, but like several other people have said the narration was a little difficult. I don't know if the book was written this way or not, but he doesn't seem to use any abbreviations. It's always "I will not do that" instead of I won't, or "I am hoping this happens" instead of I'm hoping. It gets very noticeable throughout the book.

Great story

Love this time travel series. It’s full of nostalgia with loads of references to all things 1970’s and ‘80’s which is a time I’m very familiar with. Was unsure about the narrator initially, and was concerned I may not be able to go the distance with him narrating three books, but I got used to his style and relaxed into the ups and downs of the stories.
There are many, many references to the eras - too many? Maybe for some, but I didn’t mind, as it’s a time close to my heart and I enjoyed the walk down memory lane. I’m off now to listen to the final two books in the Jason Apsley series!

Excellent, humorous time travel series

It’s not a world beater in the time travel genre but it’s still a good listen. Perhaps 4.5 stars.
I love the 80’s-90’s era in this book. There wasn’t much explanation for how they managed to time travel. Perhaps this will be addressed in future books in the series?
I would be interested to listen to the next instalment. Definitely plenty of listening here for just one credit.

Decent time travel box set
