About this listen

1920. Poppy Denby, an aspiring journalist, arrives in London to look after her ailing aunt. She encourages Poppy to apply for a job at The Daily Globe, but on her first day, a senior reporter is killed and Poppy is tasked with finishing his story. It involves the mysterious death of a suffragette seven years earlier - an event some powerful people would prefer forgotten....

Through her friend Delilah, Poppy is introduced to the giddy world of London in the Roaring Twenties. Will she make it as a journalist in this fast-paced new city? And will she be able to unearth the truth before more people die?

storyline felt very authentic and performance was so good throughout you forgot there was a narrator.

Having loved all 17 Posie Parker novels by LB Hathaway - I came across poppy Denby’s first story and it’s terrific - I am about to start book 2! I am astonished that the publishers called time on the series after 6 books - a dreadful decision in my eyes. This is a really good listen - highly Recommend.

What an absolute delight.

I listened to this because it had good reviews, but wasn't hopeful. How wrong I was. I really enjoyed this book - I love books that are informative about the past - especially when they are supplemented by an author's explanatory note at the end. An intriguing story with not a little heart pounding towards the end. A bit of romance, likeable (and obnoxious) characters and good relationships between. Great! (As was the narrator!!)

Cracking story line and a fascinating insight into a particular time in history. Plot was excellent kept me engaged and guessing until the very end, and the historical context and colour added immensely

Exciting With interesting historical perspectives
