Summary

Some agents have all the fun. Others save the world.

Bob Howard is an IT expert and occasional field agent for The Laundry, the branch of Her Majesty's Secret Service that deals with occult threats.

Dressed (grudgingly) in a tux and sent to the Caribbean, he must infiltrate a millionaire's yacht in order to prevent him violating a treaty that will start a war with an ancient underwater race. Partnered with a gorgeous American agent who's actually a soul-sucking succubus from another dimension, Bob's mission is to stop the bad guys, avoid getting the girl, and survive - shaken, perhaps, but not stirred.

This was so fun and thrilling to listen to! Book one was good but book two was amazing! Another great read from Jack Hawkins and I am so excited to start book three!

Can’t wait to start book 3!

This book gets four stars overall, that story is five stars. It’s worth wading through the atrocity archives to get to this novel. The reader is fine, good for this series but overall he’s a bit flat characters don’t have. The other downside is just how difficult to follow the narrative can be at times, the mix of metaphor with metaphysical means it can take you a few minutes to work out whether something was hyperbole or a literal description.

I do not give out five star reviews easily

Great story, better than book 1 in my opinion.
Good narration, the characters sound how I would expect them. Hope book 3 is available soon.

Another cracking read (listen)

May be because I'm not a fan of the Bond films and their tropes or ofey with the trivia. The main story line just disnt grip me too well and I found myself confused as to who some of the characters where.

Good but not great. preferd the Prologue story tbh

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have already recommended this series to friends - they are in I.T. and I'm sure they wish they could raise demons in MS windows

What other book might you compare The Jennifer Morgue to, and why?

its a bit Mike Carey , a bit James Bond (well ok a lot James Bond but thats to be expected given the poor lead is forced to act like the eponymous JB by computer driven magic)

What about Jack Hawkins’s performance did you like?

he brings the ordinary man in the street who happens to have a job working for a supernatural government agency to life - with humour and whit and his characterisation doesn't falter

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Charles Stross puts the fun in fundamental physics and maths, and dont you wish you could do magic with a AAA battery, some wire and a calculator

Any additional comments?

i hope to see many more of Charles Stross novels on audible

oh can we please have some more !
