About this listen

A chance encounter in the wilds of the North brings more joy to Elizabeth and Mr Darcy than either of them dared hope for. But her world is rocked by blow after blow - and the truth would only cause him pain. ‘I must be cruel only to be kind’ is Elizabeth’s guiding precept, and she chooses her path. Yet time, circumstances and new acquaintances teach her she had made a terrible mistake.

How can she regain what she had lost and rebuild a future with the only man she will ever love, but for whom disguise of every sort is his abhorrence?

For me this is a perfect variation (like most books by Joana Starnes). It kept me completely captivated from start to finish! Great depth to characters, engaging dialogue and such chemistry and a lot of interaction between the leads. Never any sense of a "filler " , every word has it's place, looking forward for more from the author!

Another great book from Joana Starnes

A lovely intricate and compelling story, which moves at a good pace and is beautifully narrated.

The audiobook had all my attention from the start. The author has such an exact knowledge of the various locations - I felt as if I were right there at the Kirkstone Pass Inn with Lizzy and her relations and a certain gentleman.

The local accents (Lakeland and Derbyshire) given to various people in the book is such a sweet touch. I loved it.

The audiobook had me on an emotional rollercoaster - from sheer joy to vexation to actual tears rolling down my cheeks... it doesn't happen often that a book takes such an effect on me.

My best part of the audiobook is, in chapter 16, when Lizzy and FD meet in a certain personal room...ahhh utterly charming scenes await the new listener, as well as the revisiting ones.

Stevie Zimmerman's narrating lends itself to this book like no other voice would. It is such a joy to listen to her jump from one voice to another, without the feel of the same person speaking it. She speaks male, female voices, as well as old and young voices with such conviction. Those voices of the different characters have the ability to draw you in. Exceptionally talented. And to have the two together again - Joana Starnes & Stevie Zimmerman - what can I say? A match made in heaven.

The audiobook is bound to be enjoyed by all who will listen to it.

A great favourite of mine

I would have awarded 5 stars but for the ridiculous angel/serpent conversations. Good narration by Stevie Zimmerman as always.

An interesting variation

I very much enjoyed this title, slightly slow & long winded in places but stick with it because it is heart warming in the end.
