How indeed? But Arnold Fleming, the widely dislike pensioner, or corrodian, lodged in the Dominican's house in Perth, has vanished from a chamber, and a local knight and his mistress claim to have seen the Devil abroad that very same night. Three of the friars are accused by their fellows of involvement, documents found in Fleming's lodgings suggest he was blackmailing somebody, and when Gil is called in to investigate, he reveals theft, ancient murder - and more recent secrets. Then a body turns up - then a second one. Are these deaths connected to Fleming's disappearance, or to the victim of his blackmailing activities? Gil's questioning uncovers some of the truth, but it is Alys who discovers the answer, with the help of the Dominicans' redoubtable lay-brothers and the priory kitchens.

Born and brought up in Lanarkshire, for many years Pat McIntosh lived and worked in Glasgow before settling on the West coast.

learning what a corrodian was and the experiment done to determine how his death could come about.

What other book might you compare The King's Corrodian to, and why?

the only other historical crime series I have listened to is cadfael by ellis peters which I really enjoyed. the gill Cunningham series looks like it may be as good.

Have you listened to any of Andrew Watson’s other performances? How does this one compare?

only this series and I think he performs the book really well, bringing all the characters to life and remembering which voice his did for each character. the pronunciation of some of the words.

recommend if you like fictionalised historical crime.waiting for the next book.. will alys get her hearts desire?

These books are engrossing, well written, beautifully read and so addictive.

I need to switch to book format for the last though as it's not on Audible yet. I hope it's out soon.

They are really good mysteries. I've now listened to the whole series - except the last one! Why? For some unknown reason Audible hasn't recorded the last one! Why? Yes Why Audible?
As I said they are great to listen to. The narrator is excellent, although I thought plaid was pronounced "plad" but what do I know - I'm from Liverpool.
I love the characters. They are warm and real. My favourite is Socrates. Come on Audible get Andrew Watson to record the last one!
