About this listen

Sixteen years ago, Princess Halla of Yshrem saved the life of an eight-year-old barbarian boy and watched her kingdom fall to ruin, all on the same day. Now, she is a forgotten spinster in a quiet temple, living her days out in solitude. The last of her line, she exists in the hope that she has been forgotten, for to be remembered by the enemy is to be certain death.

One person has not forgotten her. Mathior, now 24, is the fierce warrior king of the Cyclopae. Yshrem is in turmoil and his advisors have a suggestion - kill the last remaining member of the royal line, and there will be no rivals for the throne.

Mathior has a different idea. He's loved Halla for 16 long years, and it's time he claimed her as his wife. But a barbarian's wedding customs are unlike any other...

Contains mature themes.

I enjoyed the romance, however struggled to connect with the narrators, mostly the male narrator.

Great story

I’m in an all female book club - I’m out numbered on genre, romance wins. I didn’t mind this story. I managed to get the conversation rolling on culture clashes which quickly switched to whether a one eyed man is still attractive. I mentioned Colin Firth in Kingsman and that he had one eye - case settled!
The book isn’t overly long and does not have unnecessary filler. The concept is interesting as most stories build up to a battle - this deals with the aftermath of the battle and is a good reminder of the power of kindness between very different cultures.
The rest of the book club: they found it steamy and could barely put the book down! One of my friends is more cynical than myself and says the heroine is very lucky as he saved himself for her, loves her and has a satisfying and enviable sex life. Men in our world pretend they no nothing of the ‘man in the boat’ - I had to agree and laugh at this truth.

It was actually ok

This was way better than the title made me assume. There is some utterly addictive and lovable about a H that is devoted to the h. He met her when he was 7 and she 16. Now 16 years later he comes back for her and won't let her go. She is the centre of his universe, and she can't resist his masculine warrior persona, and his devotion , border line obsession with her. The spice was good and completely centred around her.
Really good narration and enchanting story.

this is a pleasant fairy tale, for grown ups. I enjoyed it, but nowhere near as much as ice planter. I think I may have become addicted to Alien romance. oops.
