About this listen

Pittsburgh’s mafia may not have been as infamous as New York’s Five Families or Chicago’s Outfit, but for nearly a century, the LaRocca Mafia Crime Family ruled Pittsburgh’s underworld with an iron fist. This is the untold story of power, betrayal, and survival, from the blood-soaked streets of Wylie Avenue to the backroom deals that shaped the Steel City’s economy.

This book uncovers the full story of Pittsburgh’s organized crime history, from the first dons to the final days of the once-mighty LaRocca family. Each chapter delves into pivotal moments: the Prohibition era’s booze barons, the violence of Wylie Avenue, the mafia’s deep connections to the city’s booming steel industry, ties to the mighty Genovese family and a reach that extended far beyond Pennsylvania, and the family’s desperate attempts at damage control as federal investigations closed in.

Through gripping storytelling and meticulous research, the LaRocca Mafia Crime Family unveils the rise and fall of a criminal dynasty that shaped Pittsburgh’s underworld. This is the true history of a mob empire—its power, players, and inevitable downfall.

This audiobook is incredible — it feels like a forgotten mob movie brought to life. The narrator sounds unbelievable, like a guy straight out of Goodfellas or Casino. His voice alone makes the story feel real, gritty, and straight from the streets of Pittsburgh. The history is fascinating, the pacing perfect, and the whole thing just oozes that old-school Mafia atmosphere.
