The towering capricious figure of Henry VIII dominates Elizabeth's childhood, but others play powerful roles: Mary, first a loving sister, then as queen a lethal threat; Edward, the rigid and sad little King; Thomas Seymour, the Lord High Admiral, whose ambitions, both political and sexual, are unbridled. Finally, there is the ever-present ghost; the enigmatic, seductive figure of her mother Anne Boleyn, executed by Henry, whose story Elizabeth must unravel. Elizabeth learns early that the adult world contains many threats that have to be negotiated if she is to keep her heart and her head. Biographical Fiction Genre Fiction Heartfelt Royalty

I really enjoyed this "listen" - and I thoroughly recommend it.

Sparkling.

I absolutely love this book. I’ve read the physical copy many times. I’m always fascinated and entertained to hear another authors fictional take on the stories of the Tudors. This is a brilliant book.
The narration is one of the worst I’ve ever endured. The reader can’t stay in character. Sometimes the narration is in her own voice, other times it’s in character and makes no sense. The accent used for the Spanish is borderline racist, basically how people in 1960 would think all Spanish people sound. The voice for Henry Beddingfield is a croaky old woman and awful to listen to. It’s honestly like it’s the first time the reader has ever read this book. Ruined the whole thing. I suggest getting then physical copy for true enjoyment of this book

Amazing book. Terrible reader

I have really enjoyed every minute of this Audiobook. I downloaded it as part of The Best of British promotion along with another Alison Weir book but am yet to listen to the other book....although I can't wait!

I have been in hospital for nearly a year and audiobooks has been my saviour as the majority of the time I have not been able to read.

The person that they chose to read the book was the perfect narrator as she has a lovely warm, calming voice perfect for listening to.

The way that the book is written is lovely and Ms Weir does transport you back in time to a place where you can hear and feel skirts rustle and billow and corsets that are tight and sexy. Dinners are served with all courses at once (you can almost smell the food and hear the noise of all the people eating, drinking and dancing). I swear I could smell the herbs and flowers strewn all over the floor along with the straw and feel the flirtatiousness, shyness and sexual tension when the young people were dancing together.

Basically, as my title says, I think this audiobook is practically perfect in every way.

Practically Perfect in Every Way

The narrators voices were consistent & had you believe you were a 'fly on the wall' in an very difficult time between Mary Tudor & Elizabeth I, caused by Henry VIII 'setting aside' their respective mother. I've listened to this book twice already & will do so again

Great book on a developing Tudor family feud

A mostly well read version of Alison Weir's work. I enjoyed it and reading the original book. Be prepared for a decent story which takes certain liberties with the accepted historical record...though the reasoning for this is discussed at the end of the book. I was a little irritated by the narration of Elizabeth's 'part', she was made to sound, throughout, like a silly little girl...something that she was generally acknowledged to never have been even at a very young age.

A decent book.
