Summary

A new kind of war has come to the continent of Ithos.

Airborne mage armies traverse enemy territory in utter secrecy. Vast city-liches conspire to influence events from afar, while city-states and archmages unleash strange new magics in a rapidly accelerating magical arms race. Nations and great powers that have remained quiescent for years have begun reaching out into the growing power vacuum. Magical superweapons and giant monsters are wielded by every side in a deadly tangle of alliances and factions, as each squabbling force spirals in towards their inevitable final conflict. At the center of that spiral lays the capital of the Havath Dominion, where a vengeful madman has proclaimed the precise date and time he will destroy the city.

The Last Echo will ring, and in its wake looms the threat of the Tongue Eater. Hugh and his friends are the only ones who can stop the ancient weapon, but the web of lies they've woven is fraying rapidly, and even their own allies have begun to question their mission. Monsters and archmages capable of leveling cities would stop at nothing to claim the Tongue Eater, leaving Hugh and the others with no one to trust.

And if they fail to stop the Tongue Eater, it could mean madness and death for the entire continent.

Fantastic series

I forgot to copy my review I wrote on Kindle, so I'll just have to write about other things. This is an amazing series to emersive read&listen as there's some nice formatting in the text that you'd miss from a listen.

Ralph is an incredible narrator and I adore his style and cadence that makes it very much a performance.

Every character, main or side, is fleshed out with their own motivations, backstory, and flaws. Whole groups make sense. There's a sense of history. This series is masterful on every level and I can't wait for John to take us out into the multiverse.

I couldn't be prouder to have my name show up in the Patreon backers in the Afterword.

Masterful

Very enjoyable conclusion to a great series, looking forward to more in future! I read the books first, and came back to enjoy the audiobooks.

Very enjoyable, worth listening to it all.

a good story throughout with a solid well planned universe and interesting and touching characters. (a few gentle mispronunciations from the speaker but a great performance from them also)

excellent story with a nice solid conclusion

[spoiler] I am still kind of disbelieving that the author managed to write an ENTIRE book about a battle but here we have it: a few pages of onset, not even, and a few pages for closure, and beside those, the entire book is about a single battle… unbelievable. A bit much maybe but he makes it work and it’s a perfect closure for this cycle too. Great work. The acting somehow improved through the books, or maybe I just got used to annoying lilt at the end of sentences and oddly placed breaks… whatever the case, I almost didn’t mind it anymore by this book, so not my favorite ebook actor but also not one that puts me off listening. Totally recommended both the book and the whole series.

So cool
