Just 15 years from now, the world is polarised along ethnic and religious lines. Regional low-intensity wars have now been raging for 35 years. In the midst of the conflict, 97 members of the Allied forces ninth Mountain Squadron en route from the Northern Front for a long awaited period of rest and relaxation, are shot down over the Nordic wilderness.

With no way of communicating with the outside world, the aircraft’s captain, Natasha Kavolsky, and the squadron commander, Major Alexander Burton, lead the squadron out of the wilderness only to discover that during their absence the world they knew has ceased to exist. Bearing this was written in 2017 its has an amazing insight to the Covid epidemic but thankfully that is not quite so bad, let's hope another epidemic is not created to finish the job.

absolutely loved this book, really detailed & feasible, near future weapon descriptions gave this a Tom Clancy feel, story was scarily plausible too, author hasn't held back with the gruesome horror of mass war, only thing I didn't like was the implausability of the amount of kit they were carrying & the size that the fighting vehicles would have to be for the size of the force & capabilities described but in all fairness its a small gripe for what is a fantastic book

very good storyline fast paced and gripping, obvious knowledge of the military from the author, well read but maybe I would have preferred not to hear the rubbish accents.
