Will she be damned by flame… or cursed by magic?

Innsbruck 1485

Helena should be doing what every other wealthy young wife is doing: keeping her husband’s house, bearing his children. But when their footman is found dead, Helena is accused of killing him. Worse, she is accused of being a witch.

Imprisoned with six other women, Helena is plunged into a world of terror. When a cursed witch totem is smuggled into the prison, the prisoners attempt to use it to escape only to unleash a malevolent spirit which places all their lives in danger.

Does Helena risk her life and the lives of others by standing up to the terrifying witchfinder and risk death at the stake if found guilty? Or is the real threat the world beyond this one…?

I enjoyed the subtle nod to the paranormal rather than an in your face full on fiction. The historical references made it come to life. Narrator did a frest job.

An enjoyable listening fusion of fact and fiction

This was a beautiful book and I finished it far too quickly! this author has an incredible gift of bringing history and fiction together. it's got some very dark themes and is heart breaking in so many ways, it's gripping and one of the best books I've read.

I listened to this book in around 24 hours, every chance I got i tuned in. Wonderful historical descriptions and lots of in depth characters. I especially loved the fact that this book was dedicated to Gisele Pelicot, absolutely outstanding.

what a great book, based on true events but obviously dramatised but the bare facts are there, it's hard to hear the awful torture that these woman suffered the story is engrossing and keeps you wanting to know what happens, the supernatural element is subtle and well blended and the narration is really well done
