Most relevant

This is a truly magical read. Its strength is in the characterisation and the ability to capture places. It is too long, but I forgave that because just as I was becoming slightly impatient, something funny, sad or shocking happened.

Sunny and Sonia are possibly the least interesting characters in the book. If they'd both got a proper job, they'd have had less time to be so self-absorbed. The greater interest lies in the other characters: Sonny's self-justifying mother Babita, and the truly monstrous artist Ilan.

The book is also perfectly narrated.

I know that I will return to it again.
